Evidence of the supposed APU was discovered in a Linux 5.15 release and posted on Phoronix. According to the report, the processor itself has the odd codename of “Cyan Sailfish” and as mentioned earlier, the APU might just be fitted with integrated graphics cores powered by AMD’s RDNA architecture. To be clear, the cores are 1st generation RDNA cores, and not the latest RDNA2 GPU cores. To be fair, AMD’s Vega GPU architecture has been in use for its G Series APUs since 2017. Therefore, such a change to the architecture is not entirely unexpected and is, frankly speaking, long overdue. That said, no engineering samples of the Cyan Skillfish are currently in existence.

There’s also the question of just how efficient the Cyan Skillfish APU will be, especially when one considers Valve’s Steam Deck and its 4-cores Zen 2 CPU and an RDNA2 GPU with eight Compute Units (CUs). (Source: Phoronix, Techspot // Image: Techspot)
