Addressing this in an interview with Reuters, Tim Cook, Apple CEO said that the company is reconsidering its prices outside of the US. Since the prices of iPhones are generally set in US Dollars, the strengthening of said currency against others in recent times also meant that the prices of new iPhones rose exponentially in certain regions especially in emerging markets.
Reuters quotes Cook as saying “We’ve gotten into January and assessed the macroeconomic condition in some of those markets, we’ve decided to go back to more commensurate with what our local prices were a year ago in hopes of helping the sales in those areas.” However, Cook did not mention specifically if only new iPhones will be affected by this price readjustment, or if all iPhones will benefit. Not only that, he also didn’t reveal the exact markets that will receive the price cut. Meanwhile, our quick check through Apple Malaysia’s official website showed that the prices of iPhone in Malaysia still remained the same at the moment.
