Prior to the official reveal trailer, the game’s publisher, 2K, posted a teaser trailer of the game on YouTube. The feature was basically nothing more than a highly stylised collage, comprising digital maquettes comprising new and familiar faces in the Borderlands universe. From what we’ve seen in the trailer, Borderlands 3 will be introducing four – as of yet, unnamed – Vault Hunters, as is the tradition of the series. Additionally, the villains of the series appear to be a male and female duo named Troy and Tyreen Calypso. Together, the two of them lead a cult known as the “Children of the Vault”. The trailer also shows that Tyreen is a Siren. Marking the first time Gearbox Software has ever casted a player class as one of the principal antagonists.

The trailer also goes on to reveal many, if not all of the characters from all previous Borderlands titles. Including characters from the episodic “Tales From The Borderlands”. Returning faces include Lilith, Brick, Mordecai, and (Tiny) Tina, who has very clearly grown up. Maya, the Siren from Borderlands 2 is also back, as is the mad scientist Patricia Tannis and everyone’s favourite arms dealer, Marcus Kincaid. The ending of Borderlands 2 hinted at the possibility of Borderlands 3 being a title where world hopping would be the norm, and to some extent, the trailer seems to confirm that point to the montage of new areas and places to visit. Some of which being non-wasteland locations, as evidenced by a scene showing massive urban infrastructure that clearly doesn’t look to be on Pandora.

Of course, it just wouldn’t be a Borderlands game without the inclusion of loot and lots of guns. To that end, Gearbox Softwares promises that Borderlands 3 will have over one billion guns. Of course, some fans of the series will undoubtedly find that number to be a little underwhelming compared to Borderlands 2’s original promise of giving players “a gajillion guns” for the taking. It also looks like Borderlands 3 will now have robots and “guns with legs”. The one thing the trailer did not reveal was the availability date of Borderlands 3. However, Gearbox Software and 2K did say that they would be making another major announcement for the game on 3 April. Hopefully, we’ll get more information about the new antagonists and its group, along with a more detailed synopsis of the game. (Source: Borderlands via YouTube)
