ETNews reports that Samsung recently received two orders for next generation chips. One is from Cisco’s telecommunications products. The other comes from Google, which involves measuring body movements. On this, the Korean tech giant will be handling both design and production of the said chip.
This is a little unusual in that the design is usually handled by the party that wants the chip made. But the report attributes this to Samsung’s strategy of adding value, by providing “customised” tech and features that its customers need. Though ultimately, the company aims to be a “pure foundry”. The report did not include the value of either contract. But if things are as the report suggests, then Google may be working on a new wearable. After all, the company is supposed to still have a Pixel Watch in the works. The watch was rumoured multiple times to be announced alongside a Pixel phone, but that fell through more than just a few times already. (Source: ETNews)
