Grab stated that the beta is in line with the Transport Ministry’s statement of allowing e-hailing companies to conduct pilot programmes for six months starting next January. According to the programme’s page on the company’s website, interested riders are required to fulfill several conditions such as being above 18 years of age, legally possessing a riders license, owning a motorcycle that is not more than five years old, and has no outstanding issues with the Road Transport Department (JPJ) or police.
Selected riders will be informed within five business days or by 9 December, and training will commence soon after. On top of transporting only one passenger during the programme period, riders will be expected to handle food delivery orders that excludes cake or pizza. Grab also stated that GrabBike riders will be charged a 20% commission from their cash wallet, and is restricted from turning off ride requests in favour of other tasks, with the exception of food deliveries. Aside from that, Grab will be supplying riders with special incentives for the first month, a Grab jacket, a small bag for food deliveries, and a helmet for their passengers.
