Honor marketing manager Kailiang Shen stated in Weibo that the brand will choose cameras with large pixel capabilities rather than high resolution. He adds that the company that 1μm pixels can ensure flagship-tier image quality, opposed to the 0.8μm pixel size found in high resolution sensors.
Larger pixels tend to have better light sensitivity, thus producing images with better detail with less noise. This applies especially to low light photography when you place the latter in consideration. Suffice to say, a camera with larger pixels would perform just as effective as sensor with a higher pixel count.
Shen mentions that Honor phones released this year onwards will maintain the company’s stand on favouring sensors with large pixels such as the Sony IMX686. The company has yet to announce any new smartphones for 2020, but next generation successors to models released last year are to be expected. (Source: Weibo via Gizmochina.)
