And yes, what you read wasn’t a typo. Shoe, as in singular and not plural. So if you’re thinking of building it as a pair… Well, this is what LEGO said on its website, “Right or left? You choose. Or buy a second set and build both.” Ouch. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. More on that later.

Anyway, the LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar kit consists of a total of 731 bricks, including extra pieces that will enable you to build either the right or left version of the shoe. It is estimated to measure at 12cm high and 27cm long when completed, which is roughly equivalent to a size 9 UK (9.5 for US). Despite looking somewhat blocky, the kit does resemble the actual Superstar shoe to an extent. Or at least it tried to. Regardless, all of the familiar Adidas branding and design elements such as the signature “three stripes” are present. The replica is only offered in a black and white colour scheme, although LEGO noted that you can customise it further to your liking. Provided that you have the same bricks for it, of course. Other extras included together with the kit is a display stand and, as mentioned earlier, real shoelaces which you can apply to the kit as the finishing touch. The LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar box itself is a replica of the actual shoebox, and you can actually reuse it to store the completed kit can or include it together as part of the display.

Now, brace yourselves for a collision with the rest of the iceberg. Ready? The LEGO Adidas Originals Superstar set will retail for RM449 when it arrives on Malaysian store shelves on 1 July 2021. “That’s not so bad,” you might be thinking. And to be honest, we sort of agree with you. But here’s the thing; the actual product itself, according to Adidas Malaysia’s official website listing, costs RM429 – for a complete pair of shoes, by the way. Therefore, if you’re thinking of building two of these for “completionist’s sake”, then you’re looking to spend a total of RM898. That’s more than double the price of the real Originals Superstar. At the end of the day, we doubt that matters such as these would stop true fans of both Adidas and LEGO from picking this set up. Plus, it does make for a pretty neat looking display. And no, you can’t wear them. However, Adidas does have something LEGO-related if you are looking for something to wear on your feet. (Source: Adidas Malaysia / LEGO Malaysia)
