According to the company, LG Velvet will be the first device to implement its new branding strategy for its mobile devices. This new concept will also see the brand move away from alphanumerical designations in favour of “familiar and expressive” names. LG adds that the name “Velvet” is intended to “evoke images of lustrous smoothness and premium softness”, the two key characteristics that the upcoming phone is emphasising on.
The company also explains that the new concept is a nod to the natural world, featuring a new “Raindrop” rear camera layout and front-back symmetrical curves. The aforementioned camera layout will see three rear cameras and an LED flash arranged in descending order by size, thus evoking images of falling raindrops. LG said that this tactilely pleasing design offers the added benefit of utilising less space on the phone’s rear, in order for a cleaner and sleeker overall look. The Velvet’s symmetrically curved edges of its display and rear body is referred to by the company as the 3D Arc Design. LG aims to have this design provide an even more ergonomic experience to users with less sharp edges and angles. While the company has shared sketches of the Velvet concept to give us a glimpse of what to expect, they’ve not decided on an estimated date on when the upcoming smartphone will debut.
