Like its predecessor, the Snapdragon 712 is a chipset designed for the mid-range market with performance levels a little closer to the semiconductor maker’s 800 series chipsets. As you would expect from number, the Snapdragon 712 only house minor increments to its performance. Compared to the Snapdragon 710. On paper, the Snapdragon 712 still is still based on the same 10nm LPP FinFET fabrication. It’s also still an octa-core processor, with two Cortex-A75 cores running at 2.3GHz, and six Cortex-A55 cores running at 1.7GHz.
Compared to the Snapdragon 710, the new chipset also feature two new audio features. These features are TrueWireless Stereo Plus and Broadcast Audio. The former is a feature catered to the use of wireless headsets and earbuds, while the latter enables devices to stream audio to several Bluetooth devices at the same time. On another note, the new Snapdragon 712 SoC still supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology. Allowing mobile devices fitted with the new chipset to have its battery charged from zero to 50% in a mere 15 minutes.
At this point, there’s still no news from Qualcomm’s mobile partners over what smartphone models will be the first to house its new chipset. However, seeing how MWC 2019 is just around the corner, it’s likely that we won’t have to wait very long to find out. (Source: Qualcomm via XDA)
