According to one report, Samsung representatives commented that the decision to cancel its CPU project was made in order to keep its Exynos chipsets more competitive in the current market alongside Huawei and Qualcomm. On another note, there is speculation that the company will fill the void left by its custom-made CPU cores with ARM-based cores.

Samsung first debut its in-house Mongoose CPU cores with the launch of its Eyxnos 8890 that powered the Galaxy S7. Since then, the Mongoose CPU cores have been a mainstay in later Exynos chipsets, including the recent Exynos 9825. While unconfirmed, it’s also been theorised that the Mongoose CPU cores required too much power and that replacing them with ARM-based cores might remedy the problem. Seeing that Samsung mainly include their Exynos chipset with their devices released in our region, it’s possible that we could see the updated Exynos chipset with ARM CPU cores in the yet to be released Galaxy S11.  (Source: Android Authority via GSMArena)
