Despite that, Jim Ryan, the President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment has acknowledged that the demand for PS5 is still much higher than what the company is able to supply. He has also noted to Reuters that the company is already producing more units at a much faster rate than before but chip shortage continues to be a challenge for Sony. Ryan also admitted that it is going to take some time before Sony is able to match the demand from gamers. In Malaysia, PS5 supply continues to be scarce with some consumers that may choose to give in to scalpers (one early example right here) and obtain the console at a much higher price than retail. On another hand, those who choose the normal retail route have to be lucky enough to get their hands on the console which was apparent from the comments on Sony Malaysia’s Facebook page regarding the latest PS5 pre-order session that took place last week. Many of the comments said that the console was sold out in less than one minute and there is even this one particular commenter who said that it is much easier to get vaccinated than to purchase PS5.
