Thus far, Gunn, who’s also penning the screenplay, has brought on the likes of Idris Elba (role currently unknown), David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man), Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher), Flula Borg (unknown) and Steve Agee (King Shark). Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney and Joel Kinnaman will return to play their original characters. Now, Deadline reports that Nathan Fillion will also be starring in The Suicide Squad but it’s still unknown what character he will be playing. Regardless of the character Fillian ends up embodying, his addition just makes the already impressive cast even more so. Fillian has been a geek cult icon since his tremendous work in Joss Whedon’s cancelled-too-soon TV series, Firefly.
Nathan Fillian also has a good working relationship with James Gunn. He previously voiced the monstrous inmate in Guardians of the Galaxy, played Bill Pardy in Gunn’s horror-comedy Slither more than a decade ago and The Holy Avenger in the director’s superhero action-comedy Super back in 2010. Previously, Gunn mentioned that his The Suicide Squad screenplay will be drawing heavily from John Ostrander run of the comics. The Suicide Squad is set to hit the big screens on 6 August 2021.
